This dynamic cel shows Fio Piccolo's head visible in the front seat of Porco's seaplane as the aircraft makes a dash down the canals away from the Piccolo factory.
This is all a single cel layer. As one examines each frame in the sequence, the wave and waters droplets change with each frame as well as Fio's hair. It is amazing that each cel in the sequence would have the aircraft redrawn with the varying wave and water droplets in different positions.
I purchased this cel at Anime Central 2009 from Art-Toons. It was displayed hung on a wall at their booth, and it immediately caught my eye. The cel has sense of movement of the orange aircraft rising from the water. I think the individual spray of water droplets does much to enhance the feel of motion. I find that I don't care much for color copy backgrounds that many vendors are now supplying with cels and I'm even less thrilled with non-matching color copy backgrounds. However, in this case, I must admit that the color copy background (please click on the first thumbnail below to view the cel with the color copy background) did enhance the overall image.
The cel appears at 46:09 (Title 1 - 4:11 of Chapter 6) of the Walt Disney Home Entertainment 25348 Disc 1 DVD. On the Studio Ghibli DVD Video VWDZ8022 Disc 1, the cel appears at 45:58 (Title 1 - 1:03 of Chapter 10).
