The ending animation begins with a flashing railroad crossing warning light, then shows the girls at the crossing as the train passes by. Images of Nabiki and Kasumi with the shadows from the passing train playing over them appear first with the next cut being the one of Akane, Shampoo, and Ranma-chan shown here. The shadows alternately hide and illuminate different girls. The background is just a stark black, fitting the image and tone of the ending song "Liar".
Most of the songs for the series are light-hearted, as would be expected for a comedy, but there is the occasional wistful / longing / sad song. I find the few Ranma cels that I have with this sort of brooding atmosphere to generally be among the most interesting that I have. The girls appear to be solemn witnesses, standing in the shadows, to some event about to unfold.
